The INAMORI Frontier Research Center was established on April 1, 2008 with substantial support from the Inamori Foundation and Kyocera Corporation as one of the activities to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Kyushu University in 2011.

In accordance with the philosophies of President Dr. Kazuo Inamori and Kyushu University, the INAMORI Frontier Research Center seeks the advancement of science and technology for the greater good of humankind and future society.

The Center conducts interdisciplinary research to attain the purpose above and enters in the second phase of the activity. In August 2104, we accepted proposals from three up-and-coming researchers and welcomed them as full professors. The Center is currently carrying out researches in the four research divisions of frontier energy, functional materials, life science, and electronics. Acting as a gateway to leading scientists the Center provides young professors and ambitious researchers with the opportunity to challenge the frontiers of their respective research fields, competing with researchers around the world. The activities of the Center have been well received in academic circles internationally. Actually, the members including students have won a remarkable number of awards and given various invited lectures at international conferences and workshops. A significant number of grants in diverse fields of research area is highlighted also a performance running at the Center. Moreover, the Center is contributing to society through collaborations with industry, which have emerged as part of the growth of the Center’s activities.

I believe that our pioneering efforts to advance the frontiers of science and technology will lead to innovations that contribute to a bright future for society. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support and cooperation in the activities of the Center.

Philosophy of INAMORI Frontier Research Center

INAMORI Frontier Research Center was established at Kyushu University's Ito campus as part of activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the university, with the support of the Inamori Foundation and Kyocera Corporation. The center is engaged in research designed to contribute to a safer and more secure society in the future, developing and maintaining a harmony between humanity and the human spirit on the one hand, and technology on the other. It will also serve to provide young researchers with a place to exchange ideas and information, and develop. By fully utilizing the research resources of the university, the Kyushu-based Center will attract researchers from around the world to deepen their interchanges and contribute to the advancement of humanity and society.
